VILLANELLE — “Infrarosso”

Infrared is the right metaphor for a debut that refuses to be looked at straight on. VILLANELLE’s “Infrarosso” moves the way heat moves under skin — registered before it is understood, intimate before it is named.

Jessica Bellomo and Carmilla Sioux build from the bassline outward: a prowling low end, then metallic synths that press the room smaller with every bar. The Italian lyric does not decorate the beat; it becomes another percussive surface. Se mi guardi, cambio forma — if you look at me, I change shape — is romance as optical hazard, desire that alters the body under attention.

There is Pet Shop Boys chill in the economy, Ladytron in the clipped sensuality, Boy Harsher in how repetition itself becomes the seduction. None of it reads as résumé. The arrangement keeps introducing new angles inside the loop, so the hook never quite settles into comfort.

Debut-single heat with an album promised for spring 2027 — and already the project understands that club machinery only matters when there is a body inside it. 8.0/10 — stack it where dark disco meets the untranslatable heat under the skin.

i feel this one in the chest first — that bassline sitting low enough that my breath syncs to it before i catch the words.

bellomo’s voice is another pressure point, not a melody floating above. the italian lines sit close; i don’t need a translation to know the song is about being changed by someone’s gaze. headphones make the synths feel like they are touching the side of my neck.

where it cools for me: the arrangement is confident, but it mostly circles the same temperature. once the infrared idea locks, the second half doesn’t open a new room — same heat, same shape-shift, same withheld release. debut geometry. strong. not yet deep.

still, i keep returning to the first minute. 7.2/10. credible dark-synth single — body-first, development still waiting for the album.
