Dawid Walkusz & Julia Frycz — “Syrena”

A siren does not need to shout. Syrena understands that — the danger is the patience, the slow invitation to mistake longing for a map.

Dawid Walkusz builds the room underwater: bass that treads instead of punches, drums that refuse to hurry, guitars and synths spreading a pale coldwave haze while Julia Frycz sings like someone who already knows the shoreline ending. The Polish lyric keeps the myth almost childishly clear — rock, water, angelic glint, the tail you pretend not to see — and that simplicity is what lets the arrangement get strange.

There is Cocteau/Slowdive blur here, a Motorama chill in the gait, but none of it feels like costume. The menace is softness itself. Desire becomes a navigational error; love becomes a current. By the time the voice has finished reassuring you, consent and catastrophe are sharing the same breath.

First signal from Fantometyka (spring 2027) and already the project knows how to make a coastline feel psychological. 7.8/10 — stack it where dreampop goes dark and the club lights are still a mile inland.

The thesis is clean. Siren myth. Soft menace. Desire as a wrong turn at sea. Walkusz and Frycz state it without gothic overacting.

Sonically it hits the lane marks: burdened bass, measured drums, dreampop haze, a vocal that refuses to rush. Frycz’s calm is the hook. The arrangement earns the water metaphor — every beat slightly weighted, every phrase suspended.

Where it loses me is development. Once the ceremonial pace locks, the second half mostly deepens the same temperature. Beautiful, but the song trusts atmosphere to finish arguments the melody could still push. Strong single; limited second-act turn.

Still a credible Fantometyka preview. 7.2/10. The soft-menace thesis works. A sharper mid-song fracture would make the surrender cost more.
